What's in a Share?
In the Summer/Fall season, plans include:
7-9 different fresh vegetables including 1 or 2 varieties of greens
weekly, 1 or 2 fresh herbs weekly, and
occasional fruit such as melons and apples from the Sankanac CSA
Biodynamic garden.
In
addition, are
1 or 2 kinds of fresh fruits weekly, dried fruit about twice a month,
yogurt, cheese and, if we are lucky, eggs regularly, bread, rice or
other whole grains several times a month and other special items
from biodynamic and organic farms to round out the share. We call
these additional items supplements.
In
the Winter/Spring, plans include:
4-6
vegetables each week from area Biodynamic and organic farms consisting
of fresh lettuce and other
greens, and root crops, a consistent supply of Biodynamic citrus
consisting of tangelos, grapefruit, and various kinds of oranges
throughout the season, 3-4 additional items (supplements) each week from
other Biodynamic or organic farms as above. For a complete list of
supplements see the seasonal information link (on the home page).
Is one share the right amount for me and my
family?
A share is
designed for a couple or small family. Single people who love good
food can also use one share. Some people who are single, don't
always cook at home, or travel a lot prefer to split a share with a
partner.

What
is the difference between summer and winter seasons? The
Summer/Fall season is very different from the Winter/Spring. In
Summer, a variety of fresh produce is grown and distributed throughout
the 6 month season along with supplements from other farms. For
Winter, roots and other such crops are harvested in the Fall and stored
for distribution throughout the Winter and Spring while a greenhouse
provides fresh lettuce greens about every other week. The
supplements round out the share with items normally eaten during the off
season such as more grains, dried fruit, and dairy products.
Citrus and apples are available most of the winter and sometimes other
fresh fruit as well.
